The great pyramid of Giza is the pyramid of Khufu which is the third but largest pyramid in the Giza plateau located in Egypt. It had been in the list of seven wonders of ancient world. Not only has this but it had many other unique descriptions such as it had hold the record of being the biggest man made structure of the world which stood for 3,800 years.

The actual date of construction of the great pyramid of Giza is not known yet but archeologists believe that it was built in the year 2560 BC. It was constructed for the Pharaoh of Egypt Khufu who belonged to the fourth dynasties of the country as his tomb. It took 10 to 20 years to come into its complete form. In the ancient times the walls of the pyramid were covered with a smooth surface.
It is made up of big stone but how the ancient people of Egypt managed to bring the big stones to the place of construction? This is still an unanswered question.
The pyramid of Giza or khufu ha three parts which are the lower chamber situated in its base, the queens chamber and the kingβs chamber.

The pyramid is surrounded by many other archeological sites such as temples and tombs of nobles. The height of the pyramid was 146 meters at the time of its construction but now it is around 138 meters due to erosion and destruction.
According to estimation there are more than 2.3 million blocks in the whole pyramid. Some parts of the pyramid are made up of lime stone and others specially the kings chamber is made up of granite.

There are three main materials used in the construction of the great pyramid of Giza in which limestone is 5.5 million tones, mortar is 500,000 tones and granite is 8,000 tones. The great pyramid of Giza is the largest tourist attraction of the country.
