The national mall contains many landmarks including National air and space museum, national museum for American history, National Museum for natural history and National Gallery of Art and many others.
Except for National Gallery of Art all other museums on the National mall are part of Smithsonian institution.
There are many other instructions near the National Mall that include Library of Congress, United States supreme court building, White House, national Archives, Freedom Forum Newsome, National Theatre and Holocaust memorial including few others.

The national mall is also one of the top destinations for protests and rallies. In 2007 tens of thousands of protestors gathered at the National mall to protest Iraq war.

The mall is also used as a point for presidential inauguration and people without official ticket gather at the mall to witness the parade.
The place is also popular for picnics, jogging and other activities for the citizens of the Washington DC. An Earth day celebration also takes place at the mall and other events include rallies, exhibitions and performances by bands.
The National mall can be reached through Washington Metro located on south side of the mall.
